Pruning

Reasons for pruning.
1. Better growth response- pruning allows the tree to direct it’s sap to the proper branches.
2. Disease management- pruning off any disease helps to reduce the chance of spreading diseases throughout the rest of the tree or shrub.
3. Pest management- pruning off any branches that have been infested with insects can help to stop the spread of the pest taking over the tree or shrubs.
There are various times to prune specific trees and shrubs. For example, pine trees should be pruned late winter or early spring to keep the sap from flowing out. But then the new growth (candles) should be tipped early summer. Azaleas should be pruned after they flower. Deciduous trees could be pruned while dormant and throughout the growing season.
